Swole for Summer - Day 9

What’s in a McNugget?

Ever wondered what’s inside a chicken nugget? This brief blog post about chicken nuggets can give a pretty good idea. Just goes to show you that the stuff we call food isn’t really food. Food is natural, unprocessed, and nutrient rich. The stuff we find in fast food restaurants and the junk isles of the supermarket is more like artificial energy.

Swole for Summer Exercise and Diet

Things have been going pretty hardcore, except for a lapse during the weekend where I got entirely too intoxicated. Let’s say too much alcohol consumption leads to at least one lost Sunday and leave it that.

My diet has been very consistent. Eggs in the morning, some protein shakes during the day, along with a pretty healthy meal for dinner (which has been hamburgers and broccoli for the most part.)

I’ve been trying to add 30 minutes of cardio to my work outs, but its very hard when I’m so pressed for time. Otherwise, the lifts are going great because I feel like I’m lifting at my maximum potential at the current time.

That’s my quick update for now. I really need to think of ways to make these posts more interesting.

Swole for Summer - Day 5

March 23rd, 2007

I came across a good article today about exercising that really caught my attention. At first I thought, “What can article on MSN tell me that isn’t some Oprah type sissy bull crap?” Well this article goes on about 5 exercises that people do, but shouldn’t. I see people doing these all the time in the gym but I think its illegal for me to yell at them to tell them to stop.

Swole for Summer - Day 3

March 21st, 2007

McDonald's TruckI’ve realized that losing weight has a lot to do with how you prepare yourself. This is true in most aspects of life. Preparation saves you time and headaches in the long run because hopefully you’ve solved problems before they arise. One of the best lines about dieting I’ve ever read was “Make your home a safe house.” The second we step outside of our homes, we are bomb-barded with advertisements for food that isn’t good for us. What’s the deal with those McDonald’s 18 wheelers that have Supersized Food on the side? There’s a McDonald’s every 5 miles, so do we have to be reminded how crispy your golden french fries are?

It’s been a very long time since I updated this site. In January, I had to deal with transferring my WordPress database to make this site easier to manage. In the process I lost a bunch of stuff, and since then I’ve just been too absent-minded to get into the program.

Call it the “Spinning Chair of Bullshit”

There is a lot of marketing involved in the multi-billion dollar industry of health and fitness. How can someone differentiate their products from the other competitors out there? Simple. Shovel a bunch of shit and lies down your throat! I’ve seen some stupid products out there and I’m sure you have too if you’ve ever watched television for more than 30 minutes.

wasting money, as seen on tvThis new section of the Better Body Journal will highlight and expose some of the more ridiculous weight loss and fitness products out there. Unfortunately, people are wasting a lot of money on diet fads, silly machines, and worthless books each and everyday. Fortunately, we’re here to warn you of these completely useless and ineffective contraptions before you’re suckered out of your money. Welcome to the “Sucker’s Corner.”

Be Your Body Type

Learn About and Train for Your Specific Body Type

Everyone and their mother obviously know that training and exercise is beneficial to anyone and everyone. Why people don’t train on a regular basis is beyond me, but that’s a different story. This article is dedicated toward body types. What? Well, in a nutshell, everyone’s body, technically, is different. There are three different kinds of body types, and I will discuss each one in detail and how training and nutrition are different for each. That’s right folks, not everyone is the same, and despite what the personal trainer at Bally’s will have you believe, the same style of training does not apply, or work, for all people.

Debunking the Atkins Diet

January 5th, 2007

Losing it all with Carbohydrates.

Been really busy for a while, but now I’m back in action with some articles, and what better way to make a come-back than an article on the worst diet known to man – the Atkins Diet. Too bad Dr. Atkins is dead, because if he wasn’t, I’m sure there are plenty of athletes that would wanna lay a smack-down on his head. Why the hell is this country obsessed with the Atkins diet? I knew about this diet long before it became mainstream in America, and always asked myself who would be stupid enough to utilize a diet that makes you lose 80% water as a final result? I don’t even know what to say, because this is supposed to be professional writing, so I can’t write truly how I feel about these peeps that are all about the Atkins diet crap. That said, on with the facts.

How I Stopped Dieting and Started Changing My Lifestyle Eating Habits

Strengthtraining Guru and Author
When you look into the mirror what do you see? Perhaps you see a cupcake with a head and a couple extra appendages. Perhaps you see a pear that can talk. Or perhaps you see walking toothpick. No matter your aesthetic malady, if it can be fixed with diet and exercise, we can fix it here at Better Body Journal. Undertaking a new “diet” or exercise program should not be taken lightly. If you are severely overweight, severely underweight, and/or have any medical conditions, you should always consult your physician prior to drastically changing your eating habits and performing significant weight bearing tasks.

Now I would like to outline a number of basic rules for building the foundation of your new dietary plan.

The Traditional Cheat Day Only Hurts You

A lot of fitness gurus and books recommend that if you are on a diet, you need a cheat day every week to keep you sane. What could be so bad about that? You’ve worked hard all week and you need to reward yourself! You did those extra sprints on Friday and have lost 4 lbs this week because of your hard work! You can’t take dieting anymore and that cheat day will let you devour the foods you have been avoiding all week! What a great idea!
