You may have heard about P90X (also known as Power 90X, X90 Workout, or PX90) on TV or heard about it from a friend. You want to know more about it, because you see the success stories from people who have lost a lot of weight, and see the pictures of people who are now in great physical shape.
This series of articles will explore the power of P90X, and what it can do for you. If you don’t know everything you need to know about P90X by the time you’ve read this series of articles, well, we haven’t done our jobs.
Getting in Shape in 3 Months
The secret to the success of P90X, is right in the name. The program is designed to be used for 90 days, or just about 3 months. (P90X is short for Power 90 Extreme)
Most gimmicks and diets sold on TV and in publications are one-hit wonders. They are dumb gadgets that only focus on your abs, or your butt, or your arms (ala Shake Weight). Whatever the muscle, none of the weight loss products you see on TV today work the entire body (which is what you are supposed to do.)
How are you supposed to get bigger arms (like the ripped, beautiful people they show in the ads) using an Ab Circle Pro? You will never get a great body doing this exercise, or that exercise, only “10 minutes a day!” It’s just not humanly possible.
What makes P90X different is that it is a program that attacks weight loss from every imaginable angle. You have exercises for every single part of the body that you mix and match for 3 months, all while intensifying the workouts each week. You also have a diet plan that plans out 3 months of what you should be eating.
Learning New Diet and Exercise Habits
It takes a long time to change our habits. It’s why these diet gimmicks and diet pills sell so well. We buy them, use them for a week, and go back to our old lifestyle. Then we buy the next best product being sold next month.
If you can stick to the P90X program for 90 days, you will develop the knowledge and habits that will last the rest of your life. You’ll have far more understanding of how our bodies change and why we get fat in the first place, and you’ll be well ahead of average person.
How and Why P90X Weight Loss System Works
The lack of proper nutrition (diet) and physical activity (exercise) is the reason why the world (Americans primarily) are becoming more and mover overweight. It is estimated that 45% of Americans will be obese by 2020. Being obese is not just being “overweight.” Being obese means you are extremely overweight, and will likely suffer from health problems during your lifetime because of it. Whether it’s diabetes, heart problems, or a poor quality of life, unless you are the luckiest person alive, you will suffer from the effects of being obese.
The problem with most weight loss routines and programs being sold today is that they are not complete systems. They promise results from dieting, or exercise, but usually not both. The truth is, you need both diet and exercise, and you need to do both well not only to lose weight to get healthy, but to get a ripped and sexy body.
The P90X System can help anybody lose weight, as long as you stick to it. P90X weight loss comes from two approaches.
P90X Exercise
The bulk of the P90X program is the workout DVDs. Getting exercise is crucial to losing weight and getting a great body. Sure, you can diet alone and have a happy life, but adding exercise to your life means you will lose weight faster, have more energy, and do things you never really thought possible (like lifting a car over your head)
The 12 DVDs included in the P90X program provide exercises that target specific parts of the body. These exercises on the P90X DVDs also have varying levels of difficulty, so as the months, progress you will keep losing weight and gaining muscle because you never “plateau.” During the program, you are instructed to combine different programs from each DVD to come up with an intense workout program that works.
The P90X workouts can be intense. If you are a beginner to proper exercise, you do have the power to work at your own pace by doing the classic training. But you can also intensify the workouts, and they are tough, even for athletes.
The bottom line is that the P90X workouts actually work. They are not sissy, or “easy” workouts you see advertised on TV from other products. P90X burns calories and adds muscle because years have been spent optimizing the routines. If you can stick to the routine that works for you, you are guaranteed to lose weight.
P90X Diet
Without proper nutrition, you will never reach your goal of a fantastic body. You can exercise all you want, but if you are eating junk then you will always fall short of your weight loss goals (this doesn’t include the few lucky people with hyper-metabolisms)
The P90X program provides very clear and simple nutrition program to follow. The specific diet plan changes each month, so by the end you have developed some new habits when it comes to food. The first thirty days emphasizes higher protein intake and less carbs, while restricting calories. The next thirty days allow more calories, and balances out your protein and carbohydrate load. The last thirty days allow for more carbohydrate intake, because you will need the energy to keep up with the P90X Exercise program in month 3.

P90X is awesome. I put on 10 pounds of muscle doing it and it still kicks my butt after doing it for 2 years now.

It’s a great program because it incorporates plyometrix/isometric exercises together. And it can be done without a gym!

P90X is such a versatile workout that it will be a part of my workout regiment forever. Looking to put together a P90X/Insanity hybrid soon.
